City’s Premier League triumph has resulted in part of Moss Side being painted blue – literally.

Instead of a red carpet, it’s a case of blue tarmac pathway as plans for a City-coloured road have been announced.

The news comes just days after the Blues secured a first title in 44 years following a thrilling 3-2 win over QPR on the final day of the season.

The soon-to-be blue road, which was named Blue Moon Way after a competition for residents, flanks a new housing development, will pass Divine Mercy Primary School and connect with Yew Tree Road in Moss Side.

The Maine Place residential development is situated on the Blues’ former Maine Road home and will ultimately have more than 300 energy-efficient houses and apartments.

Part of the planned range includes a range of properties named after former City greats like Tony Coleman, Malcolm Allison, Shaun Goater and Uwe Rosler

Prospect GB Limited contracts manager Wayne Hale – a lifelong City fan said:: “I’ve been a Blue since I was a boy and standing on Blue Moon Way brings back cherished memories for me – I can see the alleyways I used to cut through to Maine Road.

“This blue-coloured road is a way of marking the heritage of the area and recognising that the Maine Road stadium will never be forgotten,

“A lot of people come here and feel nostalgic about the as they remember the old days. I think the blue road will become a tourist attraction in its own right – especially after winning the title.”

Mike Summerbee said: “Maine Road remains a tremendously special part of the city to all Manchester City fans,

“You can feel the emotion whenever you drive to that part of the city and I think this is a wonderful idea to help recognise the site of the old stadium. I’m sure it will help supporters to relive their memories of the amazing times we had at Maine Road.”
